FLEET SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Fleet Services is responsible for providing all vehicle maintenance and equipment-related support services to all City departments. The department provides for all facets of vehicle and equipment diagnostics and repairs while providing an extensive preventative maintenance program to assure dependability, availability, and safety of the fleet as well as the complete make ready and decals on all City vehicles and equipment. The department is also responsible for fuel dispensing operations at the City’s Service Center compound and landfill locations. Using a computerized fleet management system, Fleet Services provides a complete history of vehicle and equipment maintenance/repair costs, sublet repairs, labor charges, and fuel usage to City departments on a monthly basis.

The Fleet Services Department’s greatest asset is the personnel that are in place. We have two Supervisors and two Fleet Superintendents with 110 combined years of experience and fourteen technicians. Staff is cross trained between heavy and light equipment to assist when there is down time in one area versus another. Fleet Services employs one Emergency Vehicle Technician, APWA Certified Public Fleet Professional and nine (9) Technicians are A.S.E. Certified.
Fleet Services operates an Integrated Business Systems (IBS) NAPA store within the facility. The accountability side of the parts store is the availability of parts. Parts availability goals are 85% on demand and 95% delivered within 24 hours. Plans for the FY 2009-2010 budget year include a new software interface between NAPA and FASTER to ensure prompt and accurate billing of parts. Fleet Services was accepted as a beta test site for the software interface and implementation of testing and construction of a new fuel island located at the Solid Waste facilities began in April 2009.
